On Windows 10: Microsoft's supported list includes only the Windows 10 LTSC editions. If your PC runs standard Windows 10 Home or Pro, which reached end of support in October 2025, upgrade to Windows 11 first.
Step 1: Remove Older Versions of Office
Having more than one version of Office installed on your device, such as Office 2021, Office 2019 and Microsoft 365 is the most common cause of installation and activation failures. Remove them first:
- Open Control Panel › Programs › Programs and Features.
- Find your existing Office installation and select it.
- Click Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- Restart your PC.
Uninstalling the existing Office suite does not delete your Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents. Backing up important files before any system change is still good practice.
Step 2: How to Download Office 2024 Standard
32-bit or 64-bit?
Choose 64-bit unless you have a specific reason not to. Microsoft recommends 64-bit on any PC with 4 GB of RAM or more. Only choose 32-bit if you rely on an older add-in or plugin that requires it.
You can't run 32-bit and 64-bit Office on the same PC, so match any Office apps you plan to keep.

The installer downloads to your Downloads folder as a file named like Office_2024_EN_standard_64Bits.
About this installer: the download is a small self-extracting package (about 3.5 MB) published by Technik Markt TMA e.K. It contains Microsoft's official Office Deployment Tool, signed by Microsoft Corporation, and a configuration file that tells it to install Office LTSC Standard 2024. The Office apps themselves download directly from Microsoft's servers during installation. When Windows asks for permission to run the installer, the publisher shown is Technik Markt TMA e.K. — this is expected.
Step 3: How to Install Office LTSC Standard 2024
Before you start: save your work and close Word, Excel, Outlook and any other Office apps. The installer closes open Office apps automatically, and anything unsaved will be lost. The 64-bit installer also removes any existing Office versions on the PC.
- Open your Downloads folder, right-click the installer file and select Run as administrator.
- Click Yes when Windows asks for permission.
- A setup window opens. The Destination folder is where the installer unpacks its setup files and you can leave it as it is. (Office itself always installs to your system drive; Microsoft doesn't allow its location to be changed.) Click Install.
4. Microsoft's Office installer starts and downloads the apps. This takes several minutes depending on your connection. Keep the PC online and awake.
5. When you see "You're all set!", click Close.
The completion screen mentions "Microsoft 365 and Office apps" even though you installed Office 2024. That's Microsoft's standard wording for every edition and nothing to worry about.
Step 4: Activate Office 2024 Standard
Activation needs an internet connection and your 25-character product key.
- Open any Office app of Office 2024 standard, such as Word.
- Go to File › Account. Under Product Information, you'll see Activation Required.
- Click Change Product Key.
You may also see "This product is unlicensed. Connect to your corporate network or contact your system administrator." That is normal for a volume-licensed Office edition before activation and your product key resolves it.
- Enter your Microsoft Office 2024 Standard LTSC 25-character product key and click Activate Office.
- Follow any remaining prompts. When activation succeeds, Product Information shows the product as activated. Restart any open Office apps.
How to Fix Common Installation and Activation Problems
Installation fails or stops partway
- Remove every other Office version (Step 1), restart, and run the installer again as administrator.
- Check you chose the right architecture. A 32-bit installer will fail if 64-bit Office 2024 Standard is already installed, and vice versa.
- Make sure the PC stays connected to the internet. The Office apps download during setup.
Activation fails
- Check the key carefully. The letters B and 8, and O and 0, are commonly confused.
- Set Windows' date, time and time zone to update automatically. An incorrect clock is a frequent cause of activation errors.
- Check you're connected to the internet. This edition activates online.
