Overview
Microsoft Office 2024 Home is the entry-level perpetual edition of Office for a single Windows PC. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote as a one-time purchase with no subscription. It is the edition Microsoft previously called Home & Student.
Two things to know before you buy, because they are the most common reasons people return to us for a different edition:
Outlook is not included: If you need desktop Outlook for email, you need Home & Business.
This edition is licensed for personal use, not commercial use: Office Home 2024 does not carry commercial use rights. If you are a freelancer, run a business, or will use these apps for paid work, Home & Business is the correct and compliant choice.
If either applies to you, go to Office 2024 Home & Business for PC instead. We would rather point you to the right edition than sell you the wrong one.
Who Microsoft Office Home 2024 Is Right For
- Students and home users writing documents, building spreadsheets, and making presentations
- Households wanting a one-time purchase instead of a recurring Microsoft 365 subscription
- Anyone who uses webmail (Gmail, Outlook.com in a browser) and has no need for the desktop Outlook client
- Personal projects, household admin, and study. Not paid client work
What's Included in Microsoft Office 2024 Home
Word 2024: document writing and formatting with updated editor tools.
Excel 2024: spreadsheets with dynamic arrays and newer functions including XLOOKUP, TEXTBEFORE, and TEXTAFTER.
PowerPoint 2024: presentations with updated transitions and layout tools.
OneNote 2024: note-taking with OneDrive sync.
Microsoft Office Home 2024 vs Home & Business
| Office 2024 Home | Office 2024 Home & Business | |
|---|---|---|
| Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote | Yes | Yes |
| Outlook | No | Yes |
| Commercial use rights | No | Yes |
| Devices | 1 PC | 1 PC |
| Licence type | One-time purchase | One-time purchase |
| Best for | Personal and study use | Freelance and small business use |
The gap between the two editions is Outlook and commercial use rights. If you need neither, Home saves you money. If you need either, the savings are a false economy. See Office 2024 Home and Business for PC lifetime license.
